Jefferson Island is one of five salt dome "islands" that form prominent topographic landmarks amidst the cane fields and tidal marshes along the central coast of Louisiana. The task of this project was to implement research, site documentation, site analysis, and program analysis to design a small institute and visitor's center dedicated to environmental research and education. The focus of my design was to accentuate the above and below ground relationship by interpolating and extruding the salt dome topography to define the building’s program.
